IS&T holds the premier position among international not-for-profit, professional membership organizations in advancing the science and practice of image assessment and reproduction. The mission of the Society is to keep members and others aware of the latest scientific and technological developments in the field of imaging. Today, imaging.org continues the tradition of excellence begun in 1947 as SPSE, the Society of Photographic Scientists and Engineers, as it assists members entering the 21st century.
Our more than 1,500 members and more than 5,000 customers come from more than 35 countries throughout the world.
IS&T offers individual and corporate memberships. Within the individual category, there are student, regular, and emeritus levels of membership. We also offer three categories to corporate members.

The main reason to join a professional society is to support an organization that is supporting your professional development and growth by providing access to relevant information, opportunities to network, and venues for sharing and publishing research.
In addition, individual members receive significant benefits, including:
Members may elect to become a member of an imaging.org chapter. There are currently four chapters in three regions: professional level and student level chapters located in Rochester, NY, USA; a regional European chapter; and the Tokyo chapter.
One of the most important roles of a professional Society is to recognize achievements in the field of imaging, as well as service to the Society. Honors and Awards are presented on an annual basis; nominations are due October 15 of each year.
